The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has one of the highest percentages among all U.S. public universities of undergraduate students studying abroad before they graduate -- nearly 40 percent (Institute of International Education/ Open Doors Report 2008). UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health was ranked the top school of public health within a public university by U.S. News & World Report (2008 edition, ranked in 2007). The School tied for second with Harvard in top schools of public health overall (including public and private universities). Carolina has had a total of 30 Luce Scholars since the program began in 1974. The University ranks first in the country, just above Harvard, in producing Luce Scholars. The Henry Luce Foundation provides scholarships for a year's internship in Asia, with the goal of acquainting future American leaders with Asian colleagues in their fields (2009).
